Movie Analysis: Alone

Task Sheet 1

Movie Analysis

Movie: Alone
Alone or Fad, literally twin is a 2007 Thai horror film directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom.

Questions:
1. Identify the character that you believe played significant role influencing the plot and justify why and how?
2. What do you think is the main topic/ issue highlighted in this movie? And what is the writer belief?
3.  Justify what you believe about the above topic/issue.
4. What is your opinion of the movie?

Answers:
1. The character that I believed played significant role influencing the plot is Ploy. The plot twist that happened in the falling action part of the movie makes Ploy as the significant role that had influenced the flow of the story. The plot twist is when throughout the movie, Ploy used Pim role to get Wee, the main actor role in this movie. However, no one knew about it until Ploy and Pim’s mother told Wee that the one he got married with is not Pim whom he loved but Ploy. Wee was dumfounded as well as the audience who have watched the movie once they found out that Pim who get married with Wee is not the actual Pim but her twin, Ploy.

2.  In my opinion, the main topic or issue highlighted in this movie is hatred or jealousy. The writer b belief is Ploy is a bad character since she is full of hatred and jealousy towards her twin, Pim.

3. In my point of view, hatred or jealousy happened when someone is envy towards another person of the things that he or she doesn’t have. In this movie, Ploy portrayed the full of jealousy role. Ploy envy towards the love that her twin sister, Pim, has received. The worst is when both of them love Wee, but Wee only responds to Pim’s love. It makes Ploy hated Pim even more when Pim ask for surgery so that they can be separated since they are conjoined at the stomach.  However, Pim was choked to death by Ploy days before their surgery because Ploy was so angry and envy towards Pim.

4. In my opinion, this movie has its own pros and cons. Firstly; it taught us to be nice to our own siblings like what Pim always done to Ploy. As what audiences can watch in the movie, Pim always helping Ploy whenever Ploy is having difficulties. Secondly, it also taught us to never hatred or jealous towards others since that kind of behaviour will leads to devil’s action. For instance, Ploy dares to choke Pim until she tasted death just because of her extreme jealousy.

First Impression on Critical Literacy

Hello and Assalamualaikum. As for my first post, I’m going to write about my first impression of Critical Literacy (CL) subject. Based on its name “critical”, already makes me scared to death since I’m not that kind of person who loves to think critically. I just look things based on its surface. I’m not that kind of person who will look in depth about certain topics. Added with seniors’ sharing knowledge about critical literacy make me feel even more scared to carry this subject throughout this semester 4 period of time. I’ve heard many of the seniors keep saying that critical literacy is a hardcore or killer subject for semester 4 students.

Honestly, I keep frowning because I’m stressed of thinking how hard the subject would be, how strict the lecturer could be when I first entered Critical Literacy class. However, my perception changed. The class was so much fun. The introduction attracts me to know more about what Critical Literacy is all about. Special thanks to Sir Kamaraziz aka Sir Mark who has successfully changed my perception. The old saying was right “you wouldn’t love something until you come to know about it”. Sir Mark told us, in Critical Literacy, you should suspend your emotion. Put away your own judgement. Try to think from another side. And the most important part is, in critical literacy, you have to question the statements given until it can’t be argue anymore. It sounds hard since you have to do lots of research in order to make your statement a champion.

Despite of thinking hard of the ways to pass this subject, I’ll make sure that I will enjoy it as well. It may be hard, but I will try my best to make Sir Mark proud of me. I’ll also do myself some favour as well which is to train myself to think critically and change the habit of putting my own judgement as the first priority. That’s all for my first post. Thank you. Let’s get along Critical Literacy.😉
